This will be a good opportunity to informally share our thoughts on the campaign and reflect on lessons learned as we look toward the future. Many wonderful organizations and dedicated individuals who came together and gave so much for this campaign deserve thanks. How we can fine-tune our approach and continue to build our strength, resources, alliances and power to successfully bring 100% clean energy to San Francisco is part of the dialogue that we can continue on Wednesday. We can schedule a more formal debrief and future planning meeting for another time soon, but on Wednesday let’s be sure to RECOGNIZE THE EFFORTS THAT WENT INTO THIS CAMPAIGN AND HAVE SOME FUN!

It was a tough campaign in which we bravely faced the over $10 million record-shattering amount spent against us while we made steps forward in educating San Franciscans about PG&E’s pitiful performance on renewable energy and the critical need for more action to be taken for clean energy.

You made a significant difference and together we breathed fresh air into the local clean energy movement.
Hope to see you on the 19th!

In solidarity

Clean Energy & Green Jobs Now!
Here is some more of the coverage that is coming in from the Prop H action outside of PG&E Headquarters. Dozens of people came out for the action, not to mention the dozen PG&E employees on their lunch break enjoying the show. Community members showed PG&E that San Francisco wants clean energy now, and they aren’t waiting around for it any longer! We think they got the message. However PG&E is still spending nearly $9 million on a campaign that only hold to their interests. Remember to keep your, and the climates, interests in mind Nov 4. Vote YES on H!

PROP H WIND TURBINES INSTALLED ON PG&E HQ
More Pics HERE

PG&E’s record-breaking $9.9 million opposition to Prop H said to be obstructing San Francisco’s chance for renewable and cheaper energy

SAN FRANCISCO — In front of PG&E’s downtown headquarters at 77 Beale St. at Market, three twelve-foot wind turbines were constructed by citizens eager to see Prop H pass and begin a green job and affordable green energy future. Citizens wearing green hard hats and worker overalls promptly descended on PG&E’s headquarters and constructed the wind turbine art installations. PG&E provides the City with only 2% wind energy, and 1% solar, for a total of 14% renewable energy, while Prop H would develop thousands of green jobs and move San Francisco’s energy provider to 51% renewable and clean energy in a decade, 75% by 2030 and will maximize all available and affordable renewable energy possible by 2040.

Prop H is the most robust renewable energy policy ever seriously considered in the country, and yet is more modest than Al Gore’s recent call to America to achieve 100% renewable energy in a decade. Prop H authorizes the City to achieve the renewable energy targets in the most cost-effective and pragmatic means necessary – including Community Choice and public power – the latter of which generates wind and solar energy at rates that are 10% and 49% cheaper than private utilities’ rates – according to the California Energy Commission.

About the Cost, Opportunity for Green Job Development.
Energy policy consulting firm Navigant Consulting researched CCA and confirmed that the City could attain 51% of its electricity from renewables and efficiency at rates that meet or beat PG&E’s. This report is posted on the SFPUC website. In California, wind power is 10% cheaper, and solar PV is 49% cheaper when generated through public power compared to privately generated power such as PG&E, according to the California Energy Commission’s “Levalized Cost Report” released December 2007. “Publicly owned plants are the least expensive because of lower financing costs,” confirms the CEC. The data demonstrates this consistency for renewables as well as conventional combine energy that is 8% cheaper that PG&E’s private rates.

Over 4.2 million U.S. jobs could be created by 2038 if the U.S. electricity grid transitioned to 40% renewable energy, according to the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ New Green Jobs Report released on 10/2/08. Prop H is a major policy opportunity to start this national green job development, and explicitly directs the PUC to develop a comprehensive job development plan – which is seen a huge economic opportunity during this economic crisis. Nationally-renown green job proponents – including Van Jones of Green for All- are strongly endorsing Prop H as a model policy for the country to follow. Other green job endorsers include: Literacy for Environmental Justice, Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice, and the Green Party,

Here is a great piece from Sunday’s “No on 8″ / “Yes on H” rally!
Folks from San Francisco’s LGBTQ community, clean energy advocates, and students, all opponents of Prop 8, and supporters of Prop H held a Yes on H / No on 8 rally at 11am Sunday morning. The San Francisco community came out in force in the Castro district of San Francisco. They were joined by Assemblyman Mark Leno, Supervisors Tom Ammiano, Aaron Peskin and Ross Mirkarimi, Robert Haaland from Pride at Work, Rafael Mandelman of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club and former PUC General Manager Susan Leal.

PG&E has spent over $9 million against Prop H (the Clean Energy Act) and has given a few hundred thousand dollars to the No on 8 campaign (to preserve marriage equality). PG&E’s cynical attempt to curry favor in the LGBTQ community has been overshadowed by the overwhelming support Prop H has received from LGBTQ leaders and community members. The Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club, the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, and Pride at Work have all endorsed proposition H.< /p>

The weekend came together with a rally supporting Prop H with Julian Davis, Ross Mirkarimi, Mark Leno, and 100’s of students. The rally included wind turbines being erected, supporting public transit at a near by Muni station, with chatting singing and street theatre. It was a perfect example of the next generation taking the steps to secure clean energy for their future.

Here is a great first-hand report from the Prop H pre-party and Concert w/ Cake!:

Here is the deal, I got an email from the Independent on Divisadero telling me that Cake was going to play there for a special benefit blah blah blah. I wanted to see Cake at a small venue and I was excited. By the time I figured out that my wife and I could both go, all that was left were the expensive VIP tickets and I really wanted to go so I bought them. The VIP tickets allowed us to go to a meet and greet and I sort of hate those things because the band is supposed to be nice to you because you paid more….. blah, blah blah so we figured we would just go to the show.

OK, Ok so get to the point. Well I got an email a few days before the show and it said come for food and drink etc. and the address was intiguing so we decided to go. The house was a grand old victorian with an amazing history all it’s own. the vibe was mellow and friendly and I walked past John McCrea (lead singer of Cake) on my way in trying to act non chalant…… I was so damn successful at the non chalant thing that i did not speak to John all night. I did get in 2 different conversation circles with him though and he had a bit of a sore throat so he was sipping hot tea.
Continue…

So we are hanging out and checking out this amazing house and the owner said it was OK to go anywhere in the house and have a look around and it was a truly amazing pad! As we are looking around and chatting here and there, we keep noticing these people getting really excited about proposition H and we learn that the gist of it is that they want to achieve 100% clean energy in San Francisco by 2040 and PG& E is spending millions to try and stop it. Think about that folks, PG$E is spending millions of dollars they collected from you to try and defeat this proposition. You need to get informed and make your own decisions. We heard from Alix Rosenthal and Julian Davis from the campaign and John McCrea spoke for a minute as well. When Ross Mirkarimi spoke to us, I got really fired up and excited.

Read the rest of the post and see video of the party and concert at http://bruhner.blogspot.com/
